When we first visited the salt pan communities, three years ago, they had experienced a very poor monsoon season. As a result, salt production, and therefore income, was much reduced. There was a lot of illness, malnutrition and suffering was very evident, especially in the children.
For the following year we worried about these little boys – and felt sure they would not have survived, as many children don’t in this harsh environment.
But the following two monsoon seasons were strong and there was lots of salt – and a bit more income. These young boys alive and grown and last time we saw them, well.
We were so happy to see them, and them to see us. Here they is showing off their colourful pattern drawings.
